Fight back against CMS’ cuts to specialty care payments

Nearly 40 million older Americans rely on Medicare. But cuts are coming on January 1, 2021— just weeks away— that will reduce Medicare patients’ access to specialty care.
Members of Congress can stop this, and they need to hear from you today because the recently released Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) final rule moves these cuts forward, jeopardizing patient care, specifically specialty care. Within the MPFS rule, CMS finalized reimbursement cuts to a majority of specialty care, with gastroenterology payments set to be cut by 4%. This reimbursement cut on top of the financial hardships our profession is facing from the public health emergency would continue to threaten your livelihood and patients’ access to high-quality GI care.
To stop these cuts and preserve care for patients, Congress needs to intervene by passing the Holding Providers Harmless From Medicare Cuts Act (H.R. 8702). This legislation, led by Reps. Ami Bera, MD, D-CA, and Larry Bucshon, R-IN, would provide a 2-year temporary reprieve on the reimbursement cuts while also implementing the scheduled increases to evaluation and management services.
Take action: Contact your Senators and Representatives in Congress today and urge them to support this legislation to help ensure Medicare patients continue to have access to quality specialty care.
