Urge CMS to cover follow up colonoscopies for Medicare beneficiaries

42 actions taken

Join us in urging CMS to finalize their proposal to fully cover follow-up colonoscopies after a positive non-invasive screening test for Medicare beneficiaries. Despite the availability of preventative screening options, colorectal cancer remains the second leading cancer killer in the United States. In fact, in 2018, only 68.8% of those eligible were screened for colorectal cancer. To increase participation and save lives, it is imperative that patients have access to the full continuum of colorectal cancer screening options.

Unfortunately, Medicare beneficiaries who opt for non-invasive colorectal cancer screenings are left with unexpected costs should the test come back positive and they require a follow-up colonoscopy. We join the medical community in recognizing that a colonoscopy after a positive non-invasive screening test is considered an integral part of the screening process. Patients should not be hit with a financial burden for utilizing alternative screening methods.

CMS needs to hear from you! Please join us in advocating for this critical and lifesaving measure today.

Personalized messages are especially effective. Please consider adding your own personal note in the letter to CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure.
