Tell United to Stop New Prior Auth Requirements!

Beginning June 1, 2023, United Healthcare plans to implement a burdensome, new prior authorization program for GI endoscopy procedures for Commercial plans in almost every market. United will require prior authorization for many EGD, diagnostic and surveillance colonoscopy and capsule endoscopy procedures, citing increasing volume and perceived overutilization.
United’s program will most certainly have a negative effect on your patients’ willingness to undergo medically recommended endoscopy procedures and will undoubtedly cause delays of care for high-risk individuals.
Implementing yet another program that adds to the already high administrative burden physicians face for procedures that are medically appropriate and indicated, and potentially lifesaving, seems like a waste of United’s resources and, most certainly, your time.
