Tell Congress to Stop NIH Restructuring!

359 actions taken
41 needed to reach next goal

Currently, an estimated 60-70 million Americans are suffering from gastrointestinal diseases. Consistent and sustainable research funding is necessary to support innovative research and treatment development, with a majority stemming from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Concerningly, during the House Labor, Health and Human Services (LHHS) markup of the Fiscal Year 2025 funding bill, the Appropriations Committee included language that would consolidate the NIH, our premier research agency, from 27 institutes down to just 15. This would result in the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), one of our main areas of interest, to be merged with two other groups to form a new institute, the National Institute on Body Systems Research. This restructuring would make securing research funding for GI even more difficult by having to compete with more disease states.

The good news – this consolidation is not final yet! Congress needs to hear from you on how this restructuring would impact your research initiatives.

Personalized messages are especially effective. Please consider adding your own personal note in the letter to Congress.
